Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 July 2026
1. The short version
Fairy Godmother is local-first. Until you sign in, your manuscripts and books live in your own browser's storage and never reach our servers. If you sign in, we store your account details and, when you use sync, your book content, so we can provide the service. If you buy the export unlock, Stripe processes the payment and we record that your account is unlocked. We do not sell personal data and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics on this site.
2. What we collect and why
- Account data (email address, display name, sign-in provider identifiers), collected via Firebase Authentication when you create an account. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (providing the studio, sync and your bookshelf).
- Book content (manuscripts, covers, book metadata) when you choose to sync to the cloud. Lawful basis: performance of a contract. We never read, reuse or train anything on your manuscripts.
- Purchase and entitlement records (that your account has the export unlock, when it was granted, and the Stripe checkout reference). Lawful basis: performance of a contract and our legal obligations (accounting and tax records).
- Technical logs (IP address, request timestamps, error logs) generated by our hosting provider when you use the site. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and working).
Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. Stripe acts as an independent controller for the payment itself; see the Stripe Privacy Policy.
3. Who we share data with
- Google (Firebase / Google Cloud): hosting, authentication and database services.
- Stripe: payment processing for the export unlock.
These providers process data on our behalf under their standard data processing terms. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. International transfers
Google and Stripe may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are protected by UK-recognised safeguards such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or standard contractual clauses.
5. How long we keep data
- Account data and synced books: for as long as your account exists. Delete your account (or email us) and we will remove them.
- Purchase records: 6 years from the end of the relevant financial year, as required by UK tax law.
- Technical logs: kept for a short rolling period for security and debugging.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a portable copy. To exercise any of these, contact us via our contact page. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
7. Children
Fairy Godmother is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged in the app.
